Despite losing their season opener to the Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers got back on track Sunday with a balanced early morning meal of toast, orange juice, and Seahawks. The Superbowl XL rematch was, as discussed on our week two "Sunday's Worst" posting, not slated to be the game of the week. Personally, I thought trumping up old images of Seattle in it's heyday was a weak masking of the clear mismatch this game would be. For those who looked at the two teams realistically, nobody saw anything they didn't expect. The Steelers launched down the field on their opening possession like a hot knife through butter only to fail to punch it in on a fourth down and goal. The goal line stand and a later minor injury to Ben Roethlisberger (and subsequent brief sighting of Steelers back-up Charlie Batch) would be the only bright spots for the poorly traveled and hopelessly bewildered Seattle contingent that now boasts only Marcus Trufant and Leroy Hill from their aforementioned Superbowl appearance.
Now, post mauling, the Steelers are left to examine who they are over the next week. In week three, Pittsburgh will face another team that wishes it was 2005 again, the Indianapolis Colts. Without Peyton Manning, we might be looking at another bloodbath.. right? That is exactly the question Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin and his staff are pondering at this moment. Lest we forget that Kerry Collins did come in as a back-up in 2007 and led Tennessee to a 13-3 mark.
No matter what happens next week, Pittsburgh's match-up with Tennessee will be vastly more entertaining than their day off versus Seattle!
